CD “Orpheus - Hommage à Saint-Saëns” : Saint-Saëns, Rameau et Liszt

PROGRAMME

Camille Saint-Saëns - Piano Trio n°2 in e minor, Op. 92
Jean-Philippe Rameau - Pièces de clavecin en concerts (arr. C. Saint-Saëns)
Franz Liszt - Orpheus, S.98 (arr. C. Saint-Saëns)

"To mark Saint-Saëns Year, Trio Zadig invites us to admire two essential facets of his art: composition and transcription. Pieces arranged for piano trio – Rameau’s Pièces de clavecin en concerts 1 and 5 and Liszt’s Orpheus – frame Saint-Saëns’s own Trio No. 2 op. 92. This programme gives us the impression of travelling through time and space, between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, between Hungary and France... It is a chance to discover or rediscover the compositional skills, sense of form and dialogue, thematic inventiveness and rich harmonies of Saint-Saëns. True to its penchant for seldom-frequented repertory, Trio Zadig, imitating the Voltairean hero from whom it takes its name, continues its adventure in the world of chamber music."

Digital release : The Seasons

Tchaikovsky

New album - december 2020

The Zadig Trio interprets The Seasons by Piotr Ilitch Tchaikovsky with elegance and romanticism. This very poetic work by the Russian composer takes the form of twelve small scores for each month of the year. The album looks at the passage of time, with its joys and its more difficult moments. The somewhat nostalgic childhood universe resonates in the notes. The composition of the work dates from November 1875 to May 1876 and was commissioned by Nikolai Matveyevich Bernard, publisher of Nouvelliste, a monthly music magazine from St. Petersburg. It was Alexander Goedicke, a Russian composer from the beginning of the 20th century, considered one of the great Russian organists of his time, who made the arrangement of The Seasons for trio with piano.

CD “Something in Between” : Bernstein, Attahir et Ravel

PROGRAMME

Leonard Bernstein – Candide Overture (arr. Bruno Fontaine)
Leonard Bernstein – A West Side Story Fantasy (arr. Bruno Fontaine)
Benjamin Attahir – Asfar
Maurice Ravel – Trio in A minor

"Already like a return to our origins. Between giving homage and affirmation of what unites us, this first album was the opportunity for a mesmerizing journey.  The starting point was obvious to us: Leonard Bernstein. This sparkling figure, who marked our childhoods with West Side Story and Candide, allowed us to explore our Franco-American roots and the artistic ties that unite these two countries. To guide us in the visit of such historic monuments, we needed all the skill and talent of Bruno Fontaine, to whom we owe a superb arrangement for piano trio of these works. Continuing this initiatory journey, we let ourselves be carried away by the turbulent waves of Asfar ("journey" in Arabic), a transcendental work by our childhood friend, Benjamin Attahir, to reach the shores of a unique uncharted sound universe.  Finally, as our final destination, we have chosen Maurice Ravel's Trio in A minor, the place of our unforgettable encounter with Menahem Pressler and the true mystical foundation of our musical adventure.”

Review of the Trio Zadig concert at Salle Cortot by Clara Leonardi “The climbs in power are lightning fast, the changes in character are abrupt, the silences are striking” “violin and cello take over the stage, with a sound that is both warm and brilliant, enhanced by vibrato” “an unshakeable piano whose precision of articulation […]
